Product Information

Full details

The Barbour International Brantley Heavyweight Gilet is designed for women who need versatile core warmth during transitional weather, offering a sleek, synthetic-filled layer that keeps the torso insulated without restricting arm movement. It is an ideal companion for country walks, urban errands, or layering, though its hip-length cut and lack of sleeves may not provide sufficient protection for extreme sub-zero conditions on their own.

FAQs

Is the Brantley Gilet waterproof?

The gilet is designed for warmth and insulation, not as a waterproof garment. It is best used in light weather or as a layering piece under a waterproof coat.

Can I wear this under a coat?

Yes, the gilet's streamlined silhouette is designed specifically to fit under heavier coats without causing bunching at the shoulders.

Does the fill retain heat when wet?

Synthetic fill is generally more resilient than down and retains its loft and insulating properties better if it becomes slightly damp.

How do I determine the right size?

The Brantley Gilet follows standard UK sizing. The XL size corresponds to a UK 16; we recommend checking the size guide if you plan to wear bulky sweaters underneath.

Are the pockets deep enough for a large smartphone?

The hip pockets are designed for standard daily carry items including most modern smartphone models.

Troubleshooting

The waist drawcord is uneven or sticking

Ensure the cord is not twisted inside the hem casing and gently pull both sides simultaneously to reset the tension.

Zip feels stiff or stuck

Check that no fabric lining is caught in the zipper teeth and gently rub a graphite pencil tip along the teeth to act as a lubricant.

Pros and Cons

Pros

High level of mobility due to the sleeveless design
Tailored aesthetic thanks to the adjustable waist drawcord
Versatile layering capability for varying temperatures
Easy to clean synthetic materials
Stylish, minimalist look suitable for both town and country

Cons

Does not provide coverage for the arms in freezing conditions
Length is restricted to the hip, leaving the upper legs exposed
May require a larger outer coat for extreme winter weather

Setup, Compatibility & Care

This gilet is designed for a regular fit and is true to size for a UK 16 (XL). To ensure longevity, follow these care instructions:

Cleaning: Use a gentle, cool machine wash cycle with mild detergent; always refer to the specific garment tag instructions.
Drying: Air dry naturally away from direct heat sources to maintain the integrity of the synthetic fill.
Storage: Hang the gilet on a sturdy hanger to prevent creasing of the quilted fabric.
Compatibility: It functions best when paired with base layers like long-sleeve knitwear or thin thermal tops. For added wet-weather protection, consider pairing it with a Barbour waxed jacket.
