FAQs

Is the Puma Deviate Elite 4 suitable for a marathon?

Yes, it is designed for race-day performance and provides the efficiency and energy return needed for long-distance racing.

Does this shoe provide arch support?

The Deviate Elite 4 is designed with neutral pronation support, meaning it is intended for runners who do not require significant overpronation correction.

Can I use these for everyday training?

While you can use them for fast-paced training, they are optimized for racing and speed; you may prefer a more durable, cushioned shoe for daily recovery runs.

What is the heel-to-toe drop?

The shoe features an 8mm heel-to-toe drop.

How should I clean the NITROFOAM?

Gently wipe the foam with a damp cloth; do not submerge the shoes in water or place them in a washing machine.

Are these true to size?

The Deviate Elite 4 fits true to standard adult sizing, though race shoes are often worn with a slightly snug fit to prevent movement.

Troubleshooting

Feeling instability during corners

Ensure the shoes are laced tightly using the eyelets to secure the heel cup and midfoot for better control.

Outsole collecting debris

Use a soft-bristled brush to gently remove gravel or debris from the PUMAGRIP rubber to maintain optimal traction.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Extremely lightweight construction
Excellent energy return from the PWRPLATE
Superior grip on various road surfaces
Responsive feel during high-speed runs

Cons

Less cushioning for casual or low-intensity use
Targeted specifically for race-day performance
Limited stability support for non-neutral runners

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your Deviate Elite 4 shoes maintain their performance levels, follow these guidelines:

Break-in Period: While these are race-ready out of the box, perform a few shorter runs to ensure the fit works with your specific foot shape.
Lace Management: Use the standard lace closure to dial in a secure, locked-in feel that prevents slippage during high-speed movement.
Cleaning: Clean the outsole and upper using a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid machine washing, which can degrade the integrity of the foam and adhesives.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent the foam from prematurely oxidizing or hardening.
