Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Ensure you have the necessary gate posts and hardware (hinges, latches, locks) for installation. These are typically sold separately.
- Install gate posts securely into the ground, ensuring they are plumb and at the correct width to accommodate the gates.
- Attach hinges to the gate posts and the gates, allowing for smooth operation.
- Hang the gates, checking for correct alignment and clearance.
- Install any desired latches or locking mechanisms.
- Apply a suitable exterior wood finish (stain, sealant, or paint) to protect the timber and achieve the desired look. This step is crucial for longevity and should be done after fitting.
Compatibility:
These gates are designed for standard driveway entrances. While made-to-measure services are available, ensure your chosen opening is compatible with the available sizes or custom options. Standard gate hardware should be compatible, but always check dimensions before purchasing.
Care:
- Finishing: Apply a quality exterior wood finish immediately after installation and reapply periodically as needed (typically every 1-3 years, depending on exposure and product used).
- Cleaning: Clean the gates with a damp cloth and mild soap solution. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the gates for any signs of decay, damage, or loose fittings. Pay attention to areas near the ground.
- Maintenance: Re-treatment with a suitable wood preserver or finish will be necessary over time to maintain protection against the elements.
