Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper setup, choosing the right accessories, and consistent care will maximize the lifespan and performance of your On Cloudrock Low Waterproof Hiking Shoes.
Getting Started (Setup)
- Lacing for Fit: Ensure your shoes are laced snugly but not overly tight. Use the lacing system to secure your heel and prevent your foot from sliding forward on descents. Experiment with different lacing patterns if you experience pressure points.
- Initial Wear: Wear your new shoes for short periods around the house or on easy walks to allow them to conform to your feet. This helps prevent discomfort on your first full hike.
Compatibility (What to Pair With)
- Hiking Socks: Always wear moisture-wicking hiking socks made from synthetic materials or merino wool. Cotton socks retain moisture, which can lead to blisters and discomfort, especially with waterproof footwear.
- Gaiters (Optional): For extremely wet or muddy conditions, consider pairing your shoes with low-cut gaiters to prevent debris, water, or mud from entering over the top of the shoe.
Product Care & Maintenance
Maintaining your shoes helps preserve their waterproofing and grip.
- Cleaning: After each hike, brush off any loose dirt, mud, or debris from the upper and outsole. For stubborn dirt, wipe the shoes with a damp cloth and mild soap (if necessary). Avoid using harsh detergents or abrasive brushes, as these can damage the waterproof membrane or outer materials.
- Drying: Allow your shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not expose them to direct heat sources like radiators, campfires, or direct sunlight, as this can damage materials and adhesives.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight when not in use. Ensure they are completely dry before storing to prevent odor and mildew.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: The integrated membrane provides lasting waterproof protection. For general care, simply cleaning the exterior helps maintain its effectiveness. Avoid applying external waterproofing sprays unless specifically recommended for this type of integrated membrane, as it may not be necessary and could impact breathability.
