Setup, Compatibility & Care: Maximizing Longevity
This section provides essential information for installing, using, and maintaining your Traditional Victorian Empire Lamp Shade.
Setup Instructions
- Unpack Carefully: Remove the lamp shade from its packaging, inspecting for any transit damage.
- Identify Fitting: Determine if you will use the shade as a pendant (hanging) or on a table/floor lamp.
- Adjust Gimbal (If Needed): The shade features a reversible gimbal. For pendant use, the fitting should be positioned for the shade to hang correctly. For table/floor lamp use, it should be reversed to sit upright. Simply push the inner metal ring through to the desired side.
- Install Reducer Ring: If your lamp fitting is smaller than the shade's standard opening, insert the provided reducer ring into the gimbal.
- Attach to Lamp: Securely attach the shade to your lamp's bulb holder. Ensure it is stable and level.
- Insert Bulb: Screw in a suitable light bulb, ensuring it does not exceed the 11W maximum wattage. LED bulbs are highly recommended for efficiency and cooler operation.
Compatibility
This lamp shade is designed for broad compatibility with various lamp types:
- Lamp Types: Suitable for use as a pendant light shade or on large table and floor lamps.
- Bulb Fittings: Compatible with most common lamp holders, including:
- B22/BC (Bayonet Cap)
- E14/SES (Small Edison Screw)
- E27/ES (Edison Screw)
- The included reducer ring ensures a snug fit for smaller bulb holders.
- Maximum Wattage: Crucially, do not exceed 11W for any light bulb used with this shade. Using higher wattage bulbs can cause overheating and damage.
Care and Maintenance
To ensure your Traditional Victorian Empire Lamp Shade retains its beauty and lasts for years, follow these care guidelines:
- Regular Dusting: Gently dust the velvet fabric and tassels regularly using a soft, dry cloth or a feather duster. For deeper dust removal, a low-suction handheld vacuum with a brush attachment can be used with extreme caution.
- Spot Cleaning: For small marks or spills on the velvet, lightly dampen a clean, soft cloth with water and dab the affected area. Do not rub vigorously. Test on an inconspicuous area first. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
- Tassel Care: The tassels are delicate. Avoid pulling or tugging them. If they become tangled, gently untangle them by hand.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the velvet fabric to fade over time. Position the lamp shade where it is not constantly exposed.
- Bulb Replacement: Always ensure the lamp is switched off and cool before replacing the light bulb.
