Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper setup and care will ensure your Victorian Empire Lamp Shade remains a beautiful feature in your home for years to come.
Setup Instructions
- Unboxing: Carefully remove the lamp shade from its packaging, inspecting for any transit damage. **
- Determine Usage: Decide if you will use the shade as a hanging pendant or on a table/floor lamp base.
- Gimbal Orientation: The shade features a reversible gimbal. If using as a pendant, ensure the gimbal is oriented so the wider opening faces downwards. For table/floor lamps, orient it so the wider opening faces upwards, allowing it to rest securely on the lamp holder.
- Reducer Ring: Most lamp shades come with a shade reducer ring pre-installed to accommodate common B22/BC, E14/SES, and E27/ES fittings. If your lamp holder is smaller, keep the ring in place. If your lamp holder is larger, gently remove the reducer ring.
- Installation: Securely attach the shade to your lamp fitting. For pendant lights, ensure it hangs evenly. For table/floor lamps, ensure it sits stably.
- Insert Bulb: Install a light bulb (not included) that does not exceed the maximum wattage of 11W. Compatible bulb types include B22/BC, E14/SES, and E27/ES.
Compatibility
- Light Fittings: Compatible with B22/BC (bayonet cap), E14/SES (small Edison screw), and E27/ES (Edison screw) lamp holders, thanks to the included reducer ring.
- Maximum Wattage: Strictly adhere to the 11W maximum wattage. Using higher wattage bulbs can cause overheating and damage to the shade, posing a fire risk.
- Lamp Types: Suitable for both ceiling pendant lights and standard table/floor lamp bases.
Care & Maintenance
- Dusting: Gently dust the velvet fabric and tassels regularly with a soft, clean brush or a lint roller to prevent dust build-up. **
- Spot Cleaning: For minor marks on the velvet, lightly dab with a clean, damp cloth. Avoid rubbing, which can damage the pile of the velvet. Test in an inconspicuous area first.
- Tassel Care: Gently straighten any tangled tassels by hand. Avoid pulling or tugging forcefully.
- Avoid Moisture: Keep the shade away from excessive moisture or direct sunlight to prevent fading or damage to the fabric and embroidery.
- Bulb Replacement: Always ensure the lamp is switched off and cool before replacing the bulb.
