FAQs

Are these shoes suitable for serious running?

While the GEL-1130 is inspired by ASICS's running heritage and incorporates cushioning and stability technology, it is primarily designed for everyday comfort and casual wear, not for competitive or high-mileage running.

How do I determine my correct size?

ASICS generally recommends consulting their official sizing guide, which often includes measurements for foot length. For the most accurate fit, it is always best to try on the shoes, preferably at the end of the day when your feet are slightly larger.

Can I machine wash these sneakers?

No, machine washing is strongly discouraged. The harsh detergents, agitation, and heat can damage the materials, adhesives, and structural integrity of the shoes. Please refer to the 'Care & Maintenance' section for recommended cleaning instructions.

What is the TRUSSTIC support system?

The TRUSSTIC support system is a technology strategically placed in the midfoot of the shoe. Its purpose is to enhance stability, prevent excessive twisting of the foot, and maintain the shoe's structural integrity during movement.

How often should I clean my GEL-1130 sneakers?

Regular, light cleaning after a few wears is recommended to maintain their appearance and prevent dirt buildup. A more thorough clean can be performed as needed, especially if they become visibly dirty.

Are the insoles removable?

Info needed: Most ASICS sneakers feature removable insoles, allowing for custom orthotics or easier cleaning. However, this specific detail is not provided for the GEL-1130 model. Please check your particular pair.

Troubleshooting

Uncomfortable fit or rubbing

Ensure you have selected the correct size; shoe sizes can vary between brands. Try adjusting your lacing technique or experimenting with different sock thicknesses. If new, break them in gradually over several wears.

Squeaking sound while walking

Often, a squeak comes from friction between the insole and the shoe's interior. Remove the insole, sprinkle a small amount of talcum powder inside the shoe, and then reinsert the insole. If the squeak persists, inspect the outsole for wear or separation.

Shoes get wet inside quickly in light rain

The mesh upper provides excellent breathability but is not waterproof. For light moisture protection, you can apply a waterproof spray designed for footwear. Avoid wearing them in heavy rain or puddles.

Bad odor developing in the shoes

Always allow your sneakers to air out completely after each wear. Use odor-absorbing inserts, cedar shoe trees, or a shoe deodorizer spray. Ensure you wear clean, breathable socks to help manage moisture.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Enhanced Comfort: GEL Technology cushioning effectively absorbs impact, reducing foot fatigue during extended wear.
Improved Stability: The TRUSSTIC system supports the foot's arch, offering better balance and reducing twisting.
Breathable Design: A mesh upper promotes airflow, crucial for comfort in various conditions.
Durable Construction: Made with synthetic leather overlays and a robust rubber outsole for lasting quality.
Versatile Style: The blend of vintage running aesthetics and contemporary design makes it suitable for a wide range of casual looks.
Heritage Technology: Benefits from decades of ASICS innovation in athletic footwear, offering proven comfort and support.

Cons

Lifestyle Focus: While inspired by running, these sneakers are primarily designed for casual wear and may not offer the specialized support or responsiveness required for high-performance or competitive running.
Material Maintenance: The combination of mesh and synthetic leather may require specific cleaning methods to maintain their appearance and prevent staining, especially in lighter colorways.
Info needed: Arch Support: Specific details regarding integrated arch support are not provided; users with particular arch needs may require additional inserts.
Color Fading/Dirt: Lighter color options, such as 'Pale Oak / Menthol', may show dirt, scuffs, or discoloration more noticeably over time.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To maximize the life and performance of your ASICS GEL-1130 sneakers, follow these simple guidelines.

Setup (First Use)

Lacing: Before wearing, unlace the sneakers sufficiently to allow your foot to slide in comfortably without forcing it.
Fit Check: Once your foot is in, ensure your heel is seated securely at the back of the shoe. There should be approximately a thumb's width of space between your longest toe and the front of the shoe.
Adjust Laces: Lace up firmly but comfortably. Avoid tying too tightly, which can restrict circulation, or too loosely, which can cause instability. Utilize all eyelets for enhanced ankle support if desired.

Compatibility

These sneakers are designed for adults and are versatile for a range of casual activities, including walking, light exercise, and daily wear.
They are compatible with standard athletic or casual socks. Choose socks made from moisture-wicking materials for optimal comfort.

Care & Maintenance

Proper care will help maintain the appearance and extend the lifespan of your sneakers.

Cleaning:

For the mesh upper, gently wipe with a damp, soft cloth using a small amount of mild soap (e.g., dish soap). Avoid harsh scrubbing which can damage the mesh.
For synthetic leather overlays, use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away dirt. A dedicated sneaker cleaner can be used for stubborn marks.
Outsole: Use a brush (an old toothbrush works well) and water to remove dirt and debris from the rubber outsole.
Do not machine wash or tumble dry your sneakers, as this can damage materials, adhesives, and overall structure.

Drying: After cleaning, air dry your sneakers away from direct heat sources (like radiators or direct sunlight). Stuffing them with crumpled newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
Storage: Store your sneakers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Using shoe trees can help maintain their original shape.
Odor Control: Allow your sneakers to air out after each wear. Consider using shoe deodorizers or odor-absorbing inserts to keep them fresh.
