Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Setting up your Birkenstock Gizeh sandals is straightforward:
- Adjust the Buckle: Before your first wear, slide your foot into the sandal and adjust the metal buckle on the upper strap. Ensure the strap is snug but not overly tight, allowing for natural foot movement without slippage.
- Initial Wear: Wear your sandals for short periods initially (e.g., 30 minutes to an hour) to allow the cork footbed to slowly mold to the shape of your feet. This "break-in" period is crucial for optimal comfort and support.
Compatibility
- Sizing: These sandals are a UK size 5 (adult). Ensure you select the correct size for your foot length and width for the best fit and comfort. Birkenstock sizing is known to be generous; refer to a Birkenstock size guide if unsure.
- Foot Type: The anatomical footbed is designed to support most foot types, but individuals with specific foot conditions may want to consult a specialist.
Care Instructions
Proper care will extend the life and appearance of your Gizeh sandals:
- Birko-Flor® Upper: To clean, simply wipe the upper with a damp cloth. For tougher dirt, use a mild soap solution and a soft brush, then wipe clean. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Natural Leather Insole: Gently wipe the leather insole with a damp cloth. For refreshing, a specialized leather cleaner or deodorizer can be used sparingly. Avoid oversaturating the leather.
- Cork Footbed: Protect the cork from excessive moisture and direct heat. If the cork sealant starts to look dry, apply a thin layer of cork sealer (available from Birkenstock or shoe care retailers) to prevent cracking and maintain flexibility.
- Outsole: Wipe the EVA outsole with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Check for embedded stones that could affect traction.
- Drying: If your sandals get wet, allow them to air dry naturally away from direct sunlight or artificial heat sources. Do not machine wash or dry.
- Storage: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
