How do I clean the granite mortar and pestle?
Wash by hand with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry immediately with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
What are the dimensions of the pestle and mortar?
The mortar has a diameter of approximately 21.5 cm and a height of 5 cm. The pestle measures approximately 4.5 cm in diameter and 17 cm in length.
Is the granite material prone to chipping?
The granite is described as hard-wearing, but like all natural stone, it can chip if dropped or subjected to sharp impacts. Handle with care.
Can the lid be used as a cutting board for larger items?
The lid can function as a small chopping surface, suitable for herbs or small amounts of ingredients before they are added to the mortar. It is not intended for heavy-duty chopping of large items.
Troubleshooting
Pestle not storing securely on the lid.
Ensure the pestle is placed within the designated groove on the lid and is seated firmly. The groove is designed to hold the pestle upright.
Mortar appears stained after use.
Granite is porous and can absorb some pigments from certain ingredients (like turmeric or berries). This is normal and does not affect performance. Thorough hand washing should minimize staining.
Difficulty in grinding hard spices.
Ensure ingredients are chopped into smaller pieces before grinding. Apply steady, firm pressure with the pestle. For very hard spices, multiple passes or slight crushing beforehand may be necessary.
