FAQs

Is this jacket suitable for heavy rain?

Yes, the jacket features seam-sealed DryVent™ fabric and a Non-PFC DWR finish, providing reliable waterproof protection for moderate to heavy rain.

How do I clean the jacket?

Machine wash cold with like colors using a powder detergent. Rinse twice and tumble dry on low heat. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, liquid detergent, ironing, and dry cleaning.

Can I wear this jacket in freezing temperatures?

The jacket itself offers wind and rain protection but limited insulation. For freezing temperatures, layering with a warm fleece or down jacket underneath is recommended.

What does Non-PFC DWR mean?

It signifies that the durable water-repellent finish applied to the jacket does not use perfluorinated chemicals, which are considered more environmentally friendly.

How do I restore the water repellency?

After washing, tumble dry the jacket on low heat for 20-30 minutes. If water repellency is still poor, a DWR re-treatment spray can be applied according to product instructions, followed by another tumble dry.

What is the fit like?

The jacket has a standard fit, meaning it is true to size for an easy, comfortable fit that allows for layering underneath.

Does it have pit zips for ventilation?

This specific model does not feature pit zips. Ventilation is managed through the breathable DryVent™ fabric and by opening the main zipper.

Troubleshooting

Jacket is leaking water.

Ensure all seams are properly sealed. If the DWR finish has worn off, follow the care instructions to restore water repellency. Check for any damage to the fabric or seams.

Jacket feels clammy or not breathable.

This can happen if the inner membrane is clogged. Ensure the jacket is clean and washed according to instructions. Avoid using fabric softeners or liquid detergents which can impede breathability.

Zipper is difficult to move.

Check for fabric caught in the zipper. Gently try to free the fabric. If the zipper is stiff, a small amount of graphite from a pencil lead can be rubbed onto the teeth to lubricate it.

Fit is too tight for layering.

The jacket is designed for a standard fit. For extensive layering, consider sizing up. Ensure you are not over-layering for the activity level.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent value for reliable weather protection.
Waterproof and windproof DryVent™ fabric.
Breathable to prevent overheating during activity.
Adjustable features for a secure fit.
Comfortable chin guard to prevent chafing.

Cons

May require significant layering for very cold temperatures.
Primarily designed for rain and wind, not extreme cold insulation on its own.
Two-layer construction may be less durable than three-layer alternatives for very rugged use.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: The Quest Jacket requires no setup. It is ready to wear out of the package. Ensure all zippers are closed before use.

Compatibility: This jacket is designed for use with additional layers for insulation. It pairs well with The North Face's range of fleece and insulated midlayers, as well as standard moisture-wicking baselayers. It is compatible with most outdoor backpacks and gear.

Care Instructions:

Washing: Machine wash cold with like colors using a powder detergent. Do not use liquid detergent, bleach, or fabric softener.
Rinsing: Rinse twice to ensure all detergent is removed.
Drying: Tumble dry on low heat. Do not iron or dry clean.
Water Repellency: To restore the DWR finish, tumble dry on low heat for 20-30 minutes after washing. If water repellency is still poor, a DWR re-treatment spray may be applied following product instructions, and then tumble dried again.
