Full details
The Salomon X Ultra 360 Hiking Shoes are designed for adult outdoor enthusiasts who demand a balance of agility and rugged protection on varied terrain. These shoes feature a GORE-TEX membrane and specialized chassis technology to provide waterproof reliability and lateral stability, making them an excellent choice for hikers tackling unpredictable conditions. One caveat for prospective buyers is that the leather construction and robust chassis may require a short break-in period to reach optimal comfort compared to lighter, synthetic-only trail runners.

FAQs
Are these shoes fully waterproof?
Yes, they feature a GORE-TEX membrane that provides high-level waterproof protection while allowing for breathability.
Can I use these for long-distance backpacking?
Yes, the Advanced Chassis is designed to provide the support needed for extended hikes, though comfort depends on individual foot shape.
How do I maintain the leather parts of the shoe?
Keep the leather clean of debris and salt. You can apply a leather-specific conditioner periodically if the material starts to look dry.
Do these run true to size?
Salomon generally uses standard sizing, but because these have a structured chassis, many users prefer a half-size up to account for hiking socks.
Are these suitable for winter hiking?
They offer great protection, but ensure you wear appropriate thermal socks as they are designed primarily for agility rather than extreme insulation.
Is the sole replaceable?
No, the Contagrip outsole is permanently bonded to the shoe and cannot be replaced once worn down.
Troubleshooting
Water penetrating the shoe during deep water crossings
While GORE-TEX is waterproof, the membrane only extends to the collar of the shoe; avoid stepping into water deeper than the tongue gussets.
Foot discomfort or pressure points during use
Re-adjust the lacing tension to ensure it is snug but not constricting, and ensure you are using the correct sock thickness for hiking.
Loss of traction over time
Check the Contagrip outsole for accumulated mud or debris in the lugs; clean the grooves thoroughly to restore grip.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your Salomon X Ultra 360 shoes provide lasting performance, follow these guidelines:
- Break-in Period: Wear the shoes for shorter walks on flat terrain for the first few outings to allow the leather and chassis to mold to your foot shape.
- Cleaning: After hikes, remove loose mud using a soft brush. If they become heavily soiled, use water and a mild soap to wipe the exterior, but avoid submerging the shoes fully.
- Drying: Always air dry your shoes away from direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight, as excessive heat can degrade the leather and the GORE-TEX adhesive.
- Storage: Keep in a cool, dry place and ensure they are clean before long-term storage to prevent mold or odors from developing within the membrane.
