Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Getting started with your Nike Pegasus Trail 5 Gore-tex Trainers is simple. Just slip them on, adjust the laces to achieve a snug yet comfortable fit, and you're ready to go. Ensure your heel is securely cradled and your toes have enough room to splay slightly.
Compatibility
These trainers are designed for compatibility with a wide range of athletic socks, from thin running socks to thicker trail-specific socks. They perform best on natural surfaces like dirt, gravel, mud, and rocky trails, but their cushioning also provides comfort on paved paths for mixed-terrain runs or casual wear.
Care
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the performance of your Gore-tex trainers:
- Cleaning: After use, especially on muddy trails, gently brush off loose dirt. For stubborn grime, use a soft cloth or brush with lukewarm water and a mild soap. Avoid harsh detergents or bleach, as these can damage the Gore-tex membrane and other materials.
- Drying: Always air dry your trainers at room temperature. Do not use direct heat sources like radiators or tumble dryers, as high heat can damage adhesives and materials, including the Gore-tex membrane's integrity. You can stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure they are completely dry before storing to prevent mildew growth.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: While Gore-tex is inherently waterproof, periodically cleaning and re-treating the outer fabric with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) spray designed for footwear can help maintain water beading on the surface, preventing the outer layer from becoming saturated. Follow the product instructions for any DWR treatment.
