Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper setup and care will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Salomon XT-6 GTX shoes.
Setup & First Use
- Quicklace Adjustment: Unpack the shoes and fully loosen the Quicklace system. Slide your foot in and pull the lace tab upwards to tighten until secure but comfortable. Push the toggle down to lock the laces. Tuck any excess lace into the lace pocket located on the tongue of the shoe.
- Initial Wear: We recommend wearing your XT-6 GTX shoes indoors for a few hours to ensure the fit is comfortable and to allow the materials to slightly adapt to your foot shape before extended outdoor use.
Compatibility
- Activity: Designed for a wide range of activities including trail running, light hiking, urban walking, and casual wear. Its robust construction is suited for challenging conditions.
- Apparel: Pairs well with technical outdoor apparel for performance activities, and equally with casual streetwear for a modern, functional look.
- Terrain: Highly compatible with various terrains, from rocky trails and muddy paths to concrete and urban pavements.
Care Instructions
- Cleaning: After use, especially in muddy conditions, brush off loose dirt with a soft brush (e.g., an old toothbrush). For more stubborn dirt, wipe the entire shoe with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap (avoid harsh detergents). Do not machine wash or submerge the shoes in water.
- Drying: Allow the shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Remove insoles if they are wet to facilitate faster drying. Do not use direct heat sources such as radiators, hair dryers, or direct sunlight, as this can damage the GORE-TEX membrane and other materials, leading to cracking or delamination.
- Storage: Store your XT-6 GTX in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Ensure they are clean and completely dry before storing for extended periods to prevent mildew or material degradation.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: The GORE-TEX membrane is inherently waterproof. While the outer fabric may eventually wet out (absorb water), the membrane beneath will continue to keep your feet dry. You can restore the durable water repellent (DWR) finish on the outer fabric using a suitable DWR treatment spray, following the product's instructions.
