Setup, Compatibility & Care
First Use & Compatibility
Your Belstaff Racemaster jacket is ready to wear straight out of the box. Simply put it on and adjust the buckle collar for a comfortable and secure fit. As a classic outerwear piece, it's designed to complement a wide range of casual and smart-casual attire. Layering is recommended for colder climates, as the jacket is primarily a protective shell.
Product Care
Proper care is essential to maintain the unique qualities and extend the lifespan of your waxed cotton jacket. Due to its 100% Cotton shell and waxed finish, specific guidelines must be followed:
- Spot Clean Only: For dirt or mud, allow it to dry naturally, then brush it off. For stubborn marks, use a cold, damp cloth (without soap or detergent) to wipe the affected area. Avoid scrubbing vigorously as this can remove the wax coating.
- No Washing: Do not machine wash, hand wash, dry clean, or tumble dry the jacket. Washing will remove the wax, damage the fabric, and compromise its water-repellent properties.
- Re-waxing: To maintain its water and wind repellency, your jacket will require re-waxing periodically, typically once a year depending on frequency of wear. Use a specialized Belstaff reproofing wax and follow the product's instructions carefully. This process helps to restore the protective coating and the jacket's original look.
- Drying: If the jacket gets wet, hang it in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally, away from direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight.
- Storage: Store the jacket in a cool, dry place. Avoid folding it tightly for extended periods, which can cause creasing and cracking of the wax. Hang it on a sturdy hanger to help maintain its shape.
- Avoid Soaps and Detergents: These products can strip the wax from the cotton, causing permanent damage.
