Choice of netting for fruit and vegetable cages: bird netting to keep fruit safe from birds; butterfly netting to prevent the cabbage white butterfly; Veggiemesh to stop smaller insects that could damage your plants. Choose "no netting" if you already have your own netting. Benefits of our fruit and vegetable cages: strong aluminium frame, lightweight, rust-resistant, and built to last for seasons. Netting options allow you to choose the netting that best suits your crops. The cages are quick and simple to set up, with everything you need included in the kit. They keep pests out while allowing sunlight and rain in. Multiple size options are available. Choose from our extensive range of garden cage kits and ensure your crops thrive without the worry of pests. Whether you're growing fruit, vegetables, or salad greens, our cages provide the protection you need for a bountiful harvest. The cages stand 1.2m high (3ft 11 inches) once erected and come with instructions, diagrams and a list of contents. The 16mm uprights (legs) are pushed into the soil 300mm. The tubes are 1500mm (4ft 11 inches) long, allowing for the 300mm insertion. The connectors, either build-a-balls or joiners, are used to connect the 13mm crossbars, which then connect to the legs. The netting is laid over the cage and pegged down. It is not fitted, as this would make it difficult to remove the netting on larger cages with just one person. Your crops should grow larger and be healthier with the wind resistance provided by the netting, which also stops insect pests and birds. You can choose your netting; if you would like more information about each type, click on the following links: Bird Netting Black, Bird Netting Green, Butterfly Netting Black and Green, Veggiemesh. The covers are not fitted, making them easy to lift for working the beds. If you would like a higher garden cage or a walk-in cage, follow these links. You can also build your own fruit or vegetable cage, or if you would like us to work it out for you, fill in our cage enquiry form. Please note: if snow or high winds are forecast, remove the netting. See our Cages FAQ for some common questions and answers.

FAQs
What is the height of the cage once erected?
The cage stands 1.2 meters (approximately 3 feet 11 inches) high once fully erected.
Do I need to use all the netting types?
No, you can choose the specific netting that best suits the pests you are trying to deter. Options include bird netting, butterfly netting, and Veggiemesh. You can also choose 'no netting' if you have your own.
How deep do the legs go into the soil?
The 16mm uprights (legs) are designed to be pushed approximately 300mm (about 1 foot) into the soil for stability.
Can I make the cage bigger or a different shape?
Yes, the modular design with connectors allows for expansion. You can also build your own custom cage, or inquire about higher or walk-in cage options.
What should I do if heavy snow or high winds are forecast?
It is recommended to remove the netting from the cage structure to prevent damage to both the netting and the frame during severe weather.
Is the netting permanently attached?
No, the netting is designed to be laid over the cage and pegged down. This makes it easier to lift for access to your plants and for removal during adverse weather.
What are the dimensions of the aluminium tubes?
The upright poles are 1500mm (4ft 11 inches) long to allow for the 300mm insertion into the soil. The crossbars are 13mm in diameter.
Troubleshooting
Cage structure feels unstable
Ensure the uprights are pushed sufficiently deep into the soil (300mm). Check that all connectors are securely fastened to the poles.
Netting has small gaps allowing pests in
Ensure the netting is pulled taut and securely pegged down around the base. Check for any tears in the netting and repair them.
Netting is difficult to handle on larger cages
The netting is designed to be laid over the cage and pegged, not fitted tightly, to aid removal. If working alone, consider using temporary supports or asking for assistance when lifting the netting.
Frame appears to be rusting
The aluminium frame is rust-resistant. If rust-like discoloration appears, it may be mineral deposits from water; clean with a damp cloth. True rust on aluminium is rare.
Pros and Cons
