How do I clean the cooking grates?

Use a grill brush to clean the grates after each use, while the grill is still warm.

Can I use lighter fluid?

It is not recommended to use lighter fluid. Instead, use natural fire starters.

What is the warranty?

Contact the manufacturer for specific warranty details. Kamado Joe typically offers a warranty on their grills.

How do I replace the gasket?

Gasket replacement kits are available. Follow the instructions provided in the kit.

What accessories are compatible with the Kamado Joe Classic II?

The Classic II is compatible with various accessories, including the Divide & Conquer system and the DōJoe Pizza Oven.

Troubleshooting

Grill won't heat up.

Check that the vents are open, and ensure the charcoal is lit properly. Make sure you have adequate airflow.

Temperature is too high.

Close the top and bottom vents partially to reduce airflow and lower the temperature.

Uneven cooking.

Ensure the charcoal is evenly distributed. Use the Divide & Conquer system to cook at different temperatures.

Difficulty opening the dome.

Check the Air Lift Hinge. If it still is difficult, ensure the hinge is properly installed and lubricated.

Gasket damage.

Replace a damaged gasket to maintain an airtight seal.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

  1. Assembly: Follow the included assembly instructions carefully. Ensure all parts are securely fastened.
  2. Initial Burn: Before the first use, perform an initial burn to season the grill and burn off any manufacturing residue. Open the top and bottom vents fully, light the charcoal, and let the grill reach 400°F (204°C) for about an hour.
  3. Fuel: Use high-quality charcoal, such as the Big Block Charcoal included. Avoid using lighter fluid.
  4. Temperature Control: Adjust the top and bottom vents to control the temperature. Opening the vents increases the temperature, while closing them decreases it.
  5. Cleaning:
  • After Each Use: Once the grill has cooled, brush the cooking grates and empty the ash drawer.
  • Deep Cleaning: Occasionally, remove the cooking grates and clean the interior of the grill with a grill brush. The ceramic surface can be wiped down with a damp cloth.
  1. Compatibility: This grill is compatible with various Kamado Joe accessories, including the Divide & Conquer system and the DōJoe Pizza Oven (KJ-DJ).
