Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Getting started with your Gelert Horizon Mid Walking Boots is straightforward:
- Lacing: Loosen the laces sufficiently to easily slide your foot into the boot.
- Using the Pull Loop: Utilize the pull loop on the rear of the ankle collar to help guide your foot in.
- Tightening Laces: Once your foot is comfortably in place, systematically tighten the laces from the toe upwards, ensuring a snug fit without being overly restrictive. Pay attention to the mid-ankle section for optimal support.
Compatibility
These boots are designed to integrate seamlessly with your existing outdoor gear:
- Socks: Best paired with hiking-specific socks, preferably made from wool or synthetic blends, to wick away moisture and prevent blisters.
- Trousers/Gaiters: The mid-height cut works well with hiking trousers or can be comfortably worn with gaiters for additional protection in very wet or muddy conditions.
- Activities: Suitable for general hiking, nature exploration, dog walking, and camping trips.
Care
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the performance of your boots:
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in muddy conditions, clean the boots with a soft damp cloth. Gently wipe away dirt and debris from both the upper and the outsole. Avoid harsh scrubbing or abrasive cleaners.
- Drying: Allow the boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources like radiators or campfires, as this can damage the materials and waterproof membrane.
- Storage: Store your boots in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight when not in use.
- Waterproofing Maintenance (Optional): While equipped with a waterproof membrane, over time and with heavy use, the outer synthetic material's water repellency can diminish. You can periodically apply a suitable fabric-and-synthetic-friendly waterproofing spray (following product instructions) to maintain optimal exterior water beading.
