Acer palmatum ‘Ukigumo’, known as the ‘Floating Cloud Maple’, is a captivating variety with uniquely variegated foliage. Each delicate leaf displays a soft, cream-white base with light green speckles and gentle blushes of pink – no two are exactly alike. Some emerge almost entirely pale, creating a stunning cloud-like canopy that appears to float when planted against darker backgrounds. As the seasons shift, the foliage turns to warm yellow-orange hues in autumn, before the bare branches add winter elegance with their fine, layered structure. Perfect for smaller gardens or container planting, ‘Ukigumo’ grows slowly, offering long-lasting interest throughout the year. Its graceful appearance and multicoloured foliage make it a show-stopping focal point, whether displayed on a patio or in a shaded border. With minimal maintenance, this Japanese Maple brings a tranquil and artistic touch to any outdoor space. How to Grow Instructions: Light: Prefers dappled shade or partial sun; avoid intense midday sun. Temperature: Hardy; shelter young plants from harsh winds. Watering: Keep soil moist but not waterlogged during the growing season. Feeding: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring. Humidity: Tolerates average UK garden humidity; mulch to retain moisture. Images shown are for guidance only and show the expected results of plants upon maturity.
