Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Adjust the Strap: Before your first wear, adjust the metal pin buckle on the thong strap. Ensure it is snug enough to hold your foot securely without being uncomfortably tight or causing pressure. You should be able to slide one finger underneath the strap.
- Initial Wear: Wear your Gizeh sandals for short periods initially (1-2 hours) to allow the cork-latex footbed to begin molding to the unique shape of your feet. This 'break-in' period is crucial for achieving optimal personalized comfort.
Compatibility
- Footwear Type: The Gizeh sandals are best suited for bare feet or thin socks in cooler weather, if preferred. They are not designed for thick socks.
- Clothing: Highly versatile, they complement casual attire such as jeans, shorts, skirts, summer dresses, and capris. Their elegant design also allows them to be dressed up slightly for smart-casual occasions.
- Environment: Ideal for dry, warm to moderate conditions. Avoid extremely wet environments to protect the cork and suede materials.
Care Instructions
To ensure the longevity and appearance of your Birkenstock Gizeh sandals, follow these care guidelines:
- Cleaning the Upper (Birko-Flor® Nubuck): Wipe the upper material gently with a damp cloth. For tougher stains, use a mild soap solution and a soft brush, then wipe clean. Allow to air dry away from direct sunlight.
- Cleaning the Footbed (Suede): Use a specialized suede brush to gently remove dirt and scuff marks. For deeper cleaning, dampen a cloth with a small amount of mild soap and water, gently rub the stained area, and then brush the nap back into place. Allow to air dry completely.
- Cork Footbed Protection: Avoid submerging the sandals in water. If the cork gets wet, allow it to air dry slowly away from direct heat. Consider applying a cork sealant annually to protect the cork from drying out and cracking, though this particular model's cork is latex-infused for added durability.
- EVA Sole: The EVA sole can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap.
- Storage: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use. Avoid leaving them in a hot car, which can cause the materials to dry out or shrink.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use harsh detergents, solvents, or machine wash your sandals, as this can damage the materials and construction.
