Setup, Compatibility & Care
Because these shoes feature premium leather and specialized membranes, proper care is essential for longevity. Before your first hike, consider applying a leather-safe water repellent to the exterior to maintain the material's hydrophobic properties. Ensure the laces are tightened comfortably—not overly restricted—to allow the gusseted tongue to sit flat against the instep. After use, remove any mud or debris from the Vibram outsole to prevent the rubber compound from degrading. If the shoes become soaked, air-dry them away from direct heat sources, such as radiators or fireplaces, as excessive heat can damage the GORE-TEX lining and dry out the leather. Periodically treat the leather with a conditioning cream to keep it supple and prevent cracking.
