Hammerite Direct to Rust Smooth Metal Paint is designed for homeowners and DIY enthusiasts looking to protect and beautify outdoor metalwork like fences, gates, and furniture. Its key benefit is a 2-in-1 formula that acts as both primer and topcoat, providing up to 8 years of rust protection with a smooth, glossy finish. A primary caveat is that it is solvent-based and intended specifically for outdoor metal surfaces; it should not be used indoors or on surfaces where temperatures fall outside the recommended application range.

No, this product is specifically formulated for outdoor use and contains solvents that require high-ventilation environments.
Generally no, the 2-in-1 formula acts as its own primer; however, special metals like galvanized steel or aluminum do require a specialized primer first.
You should wait at least 4 hours before applying a second coat to ensure the first layer has set correctly.
You must use Hammerite Brush Cleaner & Thinners. Standard water or white spirit may not be effective.
The paint covers approximately 5 square meters per liter.
You are likely applying too much paint at once; use thinner coats and ensure thorough brushing.
Ensure the surface was thoroughly cleaned of grease and loose rust before painting.
Perform a test patch first. If the paint bubbles or reacts, you must remove the old paint entirely before applying Hammerite.
Before starting, ensure the temperature is between 8°C and 25°C. For successful application, abrade smooth metal surfaces and use a wire brush to remove all loose rust or flaking paint. Clean the surface with diluted detergent, rinse with water, and allow it to dry completely. On bare zinc, aluminum, or galvanized surfaces, apply a separate primer first. When painting, stir the can lightly, do not mix vigorously. Apply thin, even coats to avoid sagging. After use, clean tools using Hammerite Brush Cleaner & Thinners, as the product is solvent-based and will not clean up with soap and water.
