FAQs

Are the GEL-NYC shoes suitable for running?

While inspired by performance running heritage, this model is designed primarily for lifestyle and everyday wear rather than dedicated long-distance training.

How do I determine my size?

The GEL-NYC follows standard UK sizing conventions. If you are between sizes, we recommend opting for the larger size to ensure comfort.

Can I put these shoes in the washing machine?

No, machine washing can damage the suede and the structural adhesives. Always hand clean with a soft brush.

What is the primary material used in the upper?

The upper is constructed from a combination of breathable nylon mesh and durable suede overlays.

Is the insole removable?

Yes, the standard sockliner is generally removable if you need to insert custom orthotics.

Troubleshooting

Visible dirt on suede overlays

Use a dry suede brush to lift surface dirt; avoid using water directly on the suede.

Sensation of slippage inside the shoe

Check your lacing tension and ensure you are using the correct size socks for your foot volume.

Accumulation of debris in the mesh

Use a light vacuum attachment or a soft brush to gently clear debris from the weave of the upper.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent rearfoot shock absorption for long-day comfort
Breathable design prevents overheating
Balanced stability and flexibility
Versatile design suitable for casual and active environments

Cons

Suede elements may be harder to clean than full synthetic materials
Not intended for heavy-duty off-road athletic performance

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your ASICS GEL-NYC trainers remain in peak condition, consider the following maintenance tips:

Cleaning: Use a soft-bristled brush to remove dry dirt from the mesh. For suede areas, use a specialized suede eraser or a soft cloth dampened with a mild cleaning solution. Do not submerge the shoes in water.
Drying: Air dry only. Avoid placing the shoes near heaters or direct sunlight, which can warp the materials or cause the adhesive to break down.
Fit: The GEL-NYC features a standard trainer fit. Ensure you wear appropriate athletic socks to prevent friction against the interior lining.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture to prevent odor buildup and preserve the integrity of the synthetic and natural materials.
