FAQs

What kind of running is the ASICS NOVABLAST 5 best for?

The ASICS NOVABLAST 5 is best suited for road running, including daily training runs, tempo efforts, and longer distances where you seek a bouncy, energized, and comfortable ride.

Does the ASICS NOVABLAST 5 provide stability?

The Novablast 5 features neutral cushioning, meaning it's designed for runners with a neutral pronation and does not offer extensive stability control. It prioritizes a plush, bouncy feel over pronation correction.

How do I clean my ASICS NOVABLAST 5 shoes?

To clean your shoes, gently wipe them with a soft brush or cloth using mild soap and cold water. Allow them to air dry completely at room temperature, away from direct heat. Do not machine wash or use harsh chemicals.

What is the heel-to-toe drop of these shoes?

The ASICS NOVABLAST 5 has an 8mm heel-to-toe drop, which is a moderate drop suitable for a variety of running styles.

How long can I expect my ASICS NOVABLAST 5 to last?

The typical lifespan for running shoes is generally between 400-500 miles, but this can vary based on your running style, weight, and usage. Pay attention to signs of wear in the cushioning and outsole.

Are these shoes suitable for trail running?

No, the ASICS NOVABLAST 5 is specifically designed with an outsole optimized for road running. For rugged trails, you would need shoes with more aggressive traction and support.

Troubleshooting

Shoes feel less bouncy over time

The FF BLAST MAX foam can compress with use. Allow shoes to rest and decompress between runs, or consider rotating with another pair. Ensure you are within the recommended lifespan (typically 400-500 miles).

Foot slipping inside the shoe

Re-tie your laces, ensuring a snug fit. Experiment with different lacing techniques to find one that better secures your foot. The tongue wings should help minimize tongue movement.

Blisters or discomfort during runs

Ensure you are wearing appropriate running socks. Check for any seams or irregularities inside the shoe. If discomfort persists, verify that the shoe size and width are correct for your foot type. Allow a break-in period if new.

Outsole wearing down quickly

The AHAR low-density outsole is durable for road running. Check your running form; excessive dragging or specific foot strikes can accelerate wear. Ensure you are primarily using them on intended road surfaces.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup

Using your ASICS NOVABLAST 5 shoes is straightforward:

Lacing: Ensure laces are securely tied to provide a snug, comfortable fit without being too tight, which can restrict circulation. The tongue wings help keep the tongue in place.
Break-in Period: While often comfortable out of the box, allow for a few shorter runs to fully adapt to the shoe's cushioning and feel.

Compatibility

Running Surface: These shoes are specifically designed for road running. The AHAR low-density outsole provides optimal grip and durability on asphalt, concrete, and paved paths.
Runner Type: Best suited for runners with a neutral gait who do not require significant motion control or stability features. The plush cushioning is ideal for those who prioritize comfort and bounce.

Care

Proper care extends the life of your running shoes:

Cleaning: After runs, especially in wet or dirty conditions, clean your shoes. Use a soft brush or cloth with mild soap and cold water to gently remove dirt. Avoid harsh chemicals or machine washing, as this can damage materials and adhesives.
Drying: Always air dry your shoes at room temperature, away from direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight. Stuffing them with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or extreme temperatures for prolonged periods.
Rotation: If you run frequently, consider rotating your Novablast 5 with another pair of running shoes. This allows the cushioning to decompress and recover, prolonging the lifespan of both pairs.
