Product Information

Full details

The North Face Quest DryVent Waterproof Jacket is designed for adult outdoor enthusiasts who need a reliable, breathable shell for hiking, travel, and daily wet-weather commutes. Its primary benefit is the combination of seam-sealed DryVent technology with a comfortable moisture-wicking mesh lining, ensuring you stay dry without overheating. One potential caveat is that as a lightweight shell, it does not provide heavy insulation, so you may need to layer a fleece or mid-layer underneath in colder climates.

Extended Product Information

FAQs

Is this jacket warm enough for winter?

The Quest is a shell, meaning it is waterproof and windproof but not insulated. It is designed to be worn over insulation like a down jacket or fleece in winter.

Does it have a packable hood?

No, this model features a fixed three-piece adjustable hood for maximum weather protection.

Can I machine wash this jacket?

Yes, machine wash on a gentle cycle with a technical detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.

Are the seams taped?

Yes, the jacket features seam-sealed construction to prevent water from entering through the stitching.

Is the fabric noisy like some rain jackets?

The material is designed to be relatively quiet, though it will have a slight rustle characteristic of durable waterproof shells.

Troubleshooting

Water starts soaking into the outer fabric instead of beading off.

The DWR finish has likely worn off. Wash the jacket and reapply a DWR spray-on or wash-in treatment to restore performance.

Feeling damp inside the jacket after exercise.

Ensure you are using appropriate moisture-wicking base layers. Even breathable shells have limits during extreme physical exertion.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Lightweight and highly packable for travel
Excellent moisture management due to the mesh interior
Reliable waterproof performance in heavy rain
Ergonomic design with soft-touch contact points

Cons

Not insulated, requires layering for cold weather
Lacks underarm ventilation zips
Limited to two hand pockets

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To maintain the integrity of your jacket, adhere to the following guidelines:

Layering: Wear this as your outer shell over a moisture-wicking base layer. In colder temperatures, add a fleece or synthetic mid-layer to retain body heat.
Washing: Use a technical fabric cleaner or mild detergent. Avoid fabric softeners as they can clog the pores of the breathable membrane.
Drying: Tumble dry on a low setting or air dry. Applying low heat after washing can help reactivate the DWR finish.
Storage: Store the jacket in a cool, dry place on a hanger to prevent the waterproof coating from creasing or breaking down over time.
