YouGarden Imperata Japanese Blood Grass 'Red Baron' - 2 x 2 Litre Pots

Spring is the ideal time to plant to allow the root system to establish before the peak of summer, though they can be planted throughout the growing season.

Yes, their compact size makes them perfect for 2-litre or larger containers in a gravel garden or on a patio.

You only need to perform a major prune once a year, specifically in February, to remove the old, dormant growth.

Yes, they are generally hardy and capable of surviving the UK winter, provided they are cut back in February.

While some varieties of Imperata can spread, the 'Red Baron' is generally more polite and slow-growing in container settings.

They thrive in full sun to partial shade; however, deep shade may prevent the blades from developing their signature deep red color.

Ensure the plant is receiving enough sunlight. While it can handle partial shade, the intense red pigment is typically more vibrant in full sun.

This is a normal part of its deciduous cycle. Ensure you prune the plant back to ground level in February to allow for new spring growth.

Check that the soil is not completely dried out, especially in summer. Ensure pots have sufficient drainage and aren't sitting in standing water.
