FAQs
Are these shoes waterproof?
The standard Venture 11 is designed for breathability. If you specifically require waterproof performance, look for models labeled 'WP' or 'Gore-Tex'.
Can I use these for road running?
While technically possible, the outsole is designed for soft, uneven trails. Using them on asphalt will cause the lugs to wear down prematurely.
How do I determine the correct size?
Asics generally follow standard sizing; however, since hiking involves movement, it is recommended to have about a thumb's width of space at the toe.
How often should I replace my hiking shoes?
Generally, performance hiking shoes should be replaced every 300 to 500 miles, depending on the intensity of the terrain and weight carried.
Are these suitable for wide feet?
The Venture 11 offers a standard fit. If you have particularly wide feet, you may find the standard width snug and should test them thoroughly before committing to a long hike.
Troubleshooting
Foot slipping inside the shoe during descents
Try a 'heel-lock' lacing technique to secure the ankle area more firmly.
Debris getting inside the shoe
Consider wearing trail gaiters to seal the gap between your pants and the shoe collar.
Discomfort or 'hot spots' on long hikes
Ensure you are wearing appropriate athletic socks and allow for a gradual break-in period of 2-3 shorter walks.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Excellent traction on loose or muddy surfaces
- Effective impact absorption for long hikes
- Highly durable construction for rough terrain
- Provides reliable ankle and arch support
- Stylish aesthetic suitable for outdoor activities
Cons
- Not optimized for high-speed paved road running
- May feel slightly stiff compared to lifestyle sneakers
- Firm cushioning requires a break-in period for some users
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the best performance from your Asics Venture 11 shoes, wear moisture-wicking socks to prevent blisters during extended use. Ensure the laces are tightened evenly across the mid-foot for a secure fit without restricting circulation.
Care Instructions:
- Remove excess dirt or mud immediately after your hike using a soft brush.
- Clean the outsoles with a damp cloth; avoid submerging the shoes in water.
- Air dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat sources, such as radiators, which can warp materials.
- Replace the insoles if you notice a significant decrease in arch support over time.
