FAQs

Are these shoes suitable for road running?

While they can handle short sections of road, the lugs are designed for trails and may feel less efficient or wear down faster on hard pavement.

Is this shoe good for people with overpronation?

No, the GEL-Sonoma 8 is specifically designed for neutral or supination running styles.

How should I clean the mesh upper?

Use a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water to gently wipe away dirt. Do not use bleach or machine wash.

Does the shoe provide arch support?

The shoe provides moderate support and cushioning suitable for neutral runners, but it is not a motion-control shoe.

Are these shoes waterproof?

They feature a breathable technical mesh designed for drainage and airflow, meaning they are not waterproof.

Can I replace the insole with my own orthotics?

Yes, the insole is removable and can be replaced with custom orthotics if required.

Troubleshooting

Feeling pebbles or debris under the insole

Remove the insole, shake out any collected debris, and ensure it is seated flat before re-inserting.

Reduced grip on slippery rock surfaces

Ensure the outsole lugs are free of packed mud or debris, which can reduce the shoe's multidirectional contact with the ground.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Superior grip on loose and uneven surfaces
Soft and responsive cushioning for extended runs
Durable mesh upper offers high protection
Eco-conscious insole production

Cons

Lug pattern can feel firm on asphalt or concrete
Limited to neutral or supination running styles
Primary color options are restricted to black and yellow themes

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the best performance from your ASICS GEL-Sonoma 8, ensure you have the correct size for your neutral or supination foot strike. Since these shoes feature technical mesh, avoid machine washing or drying, as high heat can degrade the adhesive and cushioning foams. Instead, clean the outsole with a soft brush and water to remove caked mud after use. If the interior gets wet, remove the insole and allow the shoe to air dry naturally away from direct sunlight or heat sources to maintain the integrity of the foam.
