FAQs
Does the patina affect the performance of the rose?
No, the natural patina is a surface characteristic of brass that occurs with use and exposure; it does not harm the function or durability of the rose.
Can I use this on a plastic watering can?
This rose is designed for use with specific Haws models featuring a No.3 brass ferrule. It is not intended for standard plastic watering cans.
What is the difference between this and a round rose?
The oval face provides a wider spray pattern, which allows you to cover more ground efficiently while maintaining the same delicate droplet size.
How should I clean mineral build-up?
Soak the rose in a bowl of warm water mixed with white vinegar to break down hard water deposits, then rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
Is this suitable for mature garden plants?
While intended for bedding and seedlings, it works perfectly well for established plants if you prefer a gentle watering style.
Troubleshooting
Rose keeps falling off the ferrule
Ensure the ferrule is a genuine No.3 brass type and that there is no debris preventing a tight friction fit.
Spray pattern is uneven or blocked
Inspect the rose face for grit or mineral deposits and clean gently with a soft brush or soak in diluted white vinegar.
Water leaking at the connection point
Verify that the rose is fully pushed onto the taper. If the fit remains loose, check if the ferrule on your watering can has been damaged or bent.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Resistant to rust and corrosion
- Creates a gentle, non-damaging water flow
- Easily adjustable spray direction
- High-quality, durable materials
Cons
- Requires a specific No.3 ferrule for compatibility
- Develops a natural patina over time
- More expensive than plastic alternatives
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To install, press the rose firmly onto a compatible No.3 Brass ferrule; the taper interference fit secures it in place without the need for additional tools. This rose is specifically compatible with the Haws Warley Fall, Warley Fall HDG, and Cradley Cascader Deluxe models. To care for your brass rose, simply rinse it after use to clear any debris. If the fine holes become blocked by hard water deposits, soak the rose in a mild vinegar solution to dissolve mineral build-up. Note that the brass will develop a patina over time—this is a normal surface reaction to moisture and does not impact the performance or structural integrity of the product.
