The Altra Konseal Hiking Shoes are designed for adult male outdoor enthusiasts who need a reliable, technical footwear solution for scrambling and extended hiking. These shoes provide a superior balance of waterproof protection and breathability thanks to their advanced construction, though the technical suede material may require more intentional maintenance than synthetic alternatives.

While the GORE-TEX liner provides excellent waterproof protection, these shoes are designed primarily for three-season technical hiking and scrambling.
No. Machine washing can damage the structural adhesives, the carbon shank, and the suede material. Always hand clean with mild soap and water.
It provides necessary rigidity for technical scrambling and support on uneven terrain, but the shoe remains flexible enough for natural foot movement.
LITEBASE is a technology by Vibram that reduces the thickness and weight of the outsole without compromising the grip or durability of the lugs.
The Altra Konseal is designed for a performance fit suitable for technical approaches. If you prefer to wear thick thermal socks, you may want to consider your size requirements carefully.
Keep them in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the suede from becoming brittle or discolored.
Ensure you are using technical, non-cotton socks. Cotton retains moisture and hinders the GORE-TEX membrane's ability to vent vapor.
Use a stiff brush after the mud has dried to dislodge debris from the traction zones, ensuring the Vibram lugs remain effective.
Apply a spray-on treatment designed specifically for suede leather to restore the water-shedding properties of the upper.
For the best performance, ensure you wear moisture-wicking hiking socks to complement the GORE-TEX lining. After use in wet or muddy conditions, remove the insoles and allow the shoes to air dry naturally away from direct heat sources, which can damage the suede. Clean the suede exterior using a soft-bristled brush to remove dried dirt. If the shoes become heavily soiled, use a dedicated suede cleaner and re-waterproof the exterior periodically to maintain the DWR finish. Store them in a cool, dry place to prevent material degradation.
