Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Initial Strap Adjustment: Before your first wear, carefully adjust both metal buckles on each sandal. The straps should be comfortably snug, holding your foot securely within the footbed without causing any pressure points. Ensure there's a small gap (approximately a finger's width) between your foot and the front/back rim of the footbed.
- Break-in Process: Birkenstocks are known for their unique custom-molding footbed. Begin by wearing them for short intervals (1-2 hours) each day, gradually extending the wear time over a few weeks. This allows the cork-latex footbed to soften and perfectly contour to your individual foot shape, maximizing comfort and support.
Compatibility
These Birkenstock Arizona Suede sandals are highly versatile and complement a broad spectrum of casual attire. They are an excellent match for:
- Jeans, shorts, and capris
- Casual dresses, skirts, and jumpsuits
- Linen trousers and relaxed-fit clothing
- Beachwear or comfortable loungewear
They are primarily designed for everyday casual use and relaxation. They are not recommended for strenuous athletic activities, extensive hiking, or formal environments.
Care
- Suede Upper Maintenance:
- Regularly use a suede brush to gently remove surface dirt, dust, and to restore the nap of the suede.
- For more stubborn marks or stains, apply a specialized suede cleaner following the product's instructions. Always test in an inconspicuous area first.
- Avoid saturating the suede with water, as this can cause discoloration, stiffening, or damage to the material.
- Consider applying a suede protector spray prior to initial wear and periodically thereafter to create a barrier against moisture and stains.
- Cork Footbed Protection:
- Shield the sandals from prolonged exposure to extreme heat, such as direct sunlight or radiators, which can dry out and crack the cork.
- If the protective cork sealant begins to show wear, apply a Birkenstock Cork Sealer to maintain its integrity and extend the lifespan of the footbed.
- To clean the footbed, gently wipe it with a damp cloth lightly moistened with a mild soap solution, then wipe off any excess moisture immediately.
- General Care Tips:
- Store your sandals in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, when not in use.
- Allow them to air out thoroughly after each wear, especially if your feet perspire, to prevent odor buildup.
- Do not machine wash or tumble dry your Birkenstock sandals, as this will cause irreparable damage.
