Product Information

Full details

The New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 is a high-performance running shoe engineered for adult male runners seeking a lightweight, responsive option for speedwork, tempo training, and race-day efforts. FAQs

Are these shoes suitable for marathon racing?

Yes, they are suitable for race-day efforts for runners who prefer a lightweight, responsive feel, though they are categorized as versatile trainers.

How should I clean the mesh upper?

Use a soft-bristled brush to remove dry dirt and a damp cloth with mild soap for any remaining stains.

Do these shoes provide stability for overpronation?

No, the FuelCell Rebel v5 is a neutral trainer and does not feature additional medial support components for overpronation.

Can I replace the insoles with custom orthotics?

Yes, the insoles are removable and accommodate most standard-sized aftermarket orthotics.

Are these shoes good for winter running?

While they provide great grip, the breathable mesh upper is designed for airflow, which may feel cold in low temperatures or wet conditions.

Troubleshooting

Feeling excessive pressure on the top of the foot

Try a different lacing pattern, such as skipping the eyelet where the pressure is highest to relieve tension.

Heel slippage while running

Use the extra eyelet at the top of the collar to perform a 'runner's loop' or 'heel lock' lacing technique.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Ultra-lightweight construction ideal for increasing cadence
High-energy return midsole for a fast, springy ride
Breathable upper keeps feet cool during intense sessions
Modern, stylish grey aesthetic with geometric patterns

Cons

Less cushioning for long-distance recovery runs
Minimalist support structure may not suit overpronators
Thin mesh upper prioritizes airflow over thermal warmth

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the best experience, start by adjusting the laces to match your foot shape, utilizing the padded collar for a secure heel lock. These shoes are compatible with standard neutral gait mechanics. For care, avoid submerging the shoes in water or using harsh detergents. If they get muddy, wipe them down with a damp cloth and mild soap. Allow the shoes to air dry naturally in a shaded, well-ventilated area, avoiding direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight, which can degrade the foam and glue integrity over time.
