The Merrell Speed ARC Matis is designed for active adults who demand a versatile hybrid shoe that bridges the gap between urban style and rugged trail performance. Featuring a Gore-Tex waterproof membrane and high-traction Vibram outsoles, these shoes excel at keeping feet dry and stable on unpredictable terrain, though their lightweight construction is best suited for day hiking rather than heavy-duty multi-day backpacking with significant loads.

They offer excellent water protection, but they are lightweight and lack heavy insulation, so they are best for three-season use.
Yes, the bungee system can be replaced with standard hiking laces if you prefer a more traditional secure fit.
Keep the exterior clean of mud and grit, which can eventually wear down the waterproof barrier over time.
Yes, they generally follow standard sizing; however, if you plan on wearing thick wool hiking socks, consider trying them on with those socks first.
The factory-supplied EVA insole is removable, making it easy to swap in your preferred aftermarket or custom orthotic insoles.
Adjust the toggle tension while the foot is inside the shoe to find the optimal balance between support and comfort.
Ensure that water is not entering through the top cuff of the shoe and check the upper fabric for any sharp punctures or debris.
Remove the EVA insole and wash it separately; ensure the shoe is fully dry before re-inserting.
To ensure the longevity of your Merrell Speed ARC Matis, follow these maintenance practices. The shoes come with a removable EVA footbed which can be taken out to air dry after intense use. For cleaning, use a soft brush and mild soap to remove debris from the Vibram outsole; avoid submerging in harsh detergents as this can impact the waterproof membrane. While the shoes feature Cleansport Nxt for odor management, regular airing out after hikes is recommended. Keep the shoes away from direct high-heat sources like radiators, as extreme heat can degrade the adhesives and foam components.
