Full details
The Savage Gear MP Split Ring and Cut Pliers are essential for dedicated anglers who require a compact, reliable tool for terminal tackle adjustments. Built with a durable PTFE-coated carbon steel frame, these pliers provide excellent corrosion resistance in both freshwater and saltwater environments. While they offer exceptional utility for hook management and line cutting in a 13cm package, they are sized specifically for light to medium-duty tasks and may not be suitable for heavy-duty big game fishing hardware.

FAQs
Can I use these for saltwater fishing?
Yes, the PTFE coating is designed specifically to resist corrosion from saltwater environments, provided they are rinsed with fresh water after use.
What is the total length of the pliers?
These pliers measure 13cm in total length.
Are these suitable for cutting heavy steel leader wire?
These pliers are designed for standard fishing lines and leaders. We do not recommend using them on heavy-gauge stainless steel wire, as it may damage the cutting edges.
Do the pliers come with a sheath?
The pliers are sold as a standalone tool; they do not include a sheath.
How do I maintain the PVC grips?
Simply wipe them down with a damp cloth after use. Avoid using harsh chemical solvents, which may degrade the PVC material.
Troubleshooting
Pliers feel stiff or difficult to open
Apply a drop of lightweight machine oil to the pivot screw and work the handles back and forth to distribute the lubricant.
Line cutter is not slicing cleanly
Check the cutting surfaces for debris or salt crusting. If clear, ensure the pliers are fully aligned; if performance remains low, the blade may be dull from extensive use with heavy wire.
Signs of surface discoloration
Use a fine abrasive cloth to gently clean the surface and re-coat with a thin layer of protective oil to inhibit further corrosion.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
These pliers are ready to use straight out of the box. No assembly is required. To ensure longevity and maintain performance:
- Freshwater Rinse: Always rinse the pliers with fresh water after use in saltwater environments to remove salt deposits.
- Drying: Wipe the tool completely dry with a clean cloth after each trip to prevent moisture buildup under the grips.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a drop of high-quality reel oil to the pivot point to keep the opening and closing action smooth.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use for extended periods.
