Full details

The Birkenstock Uppsala Zip Shearling Ankle Boots are designed for women seeking a stylish and comfortable option for colder weather. Their key benefit lies in the superior warmth and foot climate regulation provided by the natural lambswool lining, combined with the ease of a zip closure. A minor caveat is that the 'Narrow Fit' may feel like a standard fit for those accustomed to other brands. These boots feature a premium suede upper, antibacterial and moisture-wicking natural lambswool lining, a removable anatomical cork and latex footbed, and a lightweight synthetic sole, offering a blend of classic style and practical comfort.

FAQs

Are these boots suitable for snow?

While the lambswool lining provides excellent warmth, the suede upper is not inherently waterproof. For snowy conditions, it is recommended to treat the boots with a suitable waterproofing spray designed for suede and leather.

How do I clean the lambswool lining?

The lambswool lining can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth. For deeper cleaning, allow the boots to air dry thoroughly and use a suede brush to remove any loose debris. Avoid machine washing or soaking.

Can I replace the footbed?

Yes, the Uppsala Zip boots feature a removable anatomical footbed made of cork and latex. You can replace it with another Birkenstock footbed or a compatible insert if desired.

What does 'Narrow Fit' mean for Birkenstock boots?

Birkenstock's 'Narrow Fit' in their footwear typically corresponds to a standard width fit in most other shoe brands. It's designed to accommodate a standard foot width comfortably.

What material is the sole made of?

The outsole is made of a lightweight synthetic material, specifically a durable rubber sole, designed to provide good traction and longevity.

How should I store these boots when not in use?

Store the boots in a cool, dry place, ideally in their original box or a breathable dust bag. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight or damp environments to preserve the materials.

Troubleshooting

Boots feel tight or uncomfortable initially

Suede boots often require a short break-in period. Wear them for short durations initially and gradually increase wear time. Ensure the correct size has been selected; the 'Narrow Fit' may fit differently than expected.

Suede surface has water spots or stains

Allow the boots to dry naturally. Once dry, use a suede brush to gently restore the nap. For stubborn stains, use a suede eraser. Consider applying a suede protector spray to prevent future staining.

Lambswool lining feels damp

Remove the footbed if possible and allow the boots to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area, away from direct heat or sunlight. Avoid wearing them in very wet conditions without prior waterproofing.

Zip is stiff or difficult to move

Gently try to move the zip up and down. A small amount of beeswax or a graphite pencil (rubbing the tip on the teeth) can help lubricate the mechanism. Ensure no fabric is caught in the zip.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent warmth and insulation due to lambswool lining.
  • Comfortable and supportive anatomical footbed.
  • Easy to put on and take off with the side zip.
  • High-quality suede material offers a premium feel.
  • Antibacterial and moisture-wicking properties keep feet dry and fresh.
  • Versatile, timeless design that pairs well with winter attire.

Cons

  • Suede material requires careful maintenance to avoid stains and water damage.
  • May require breaking in for optimal comfort.
  • The 'Narrow Fit' designation might be misleading for users familiar with standard sizing.
  • Flat sole offers limited ankle support for extensive walking on uneven terrain.
  • Not suitable for very wet conditions without appropriate waterproofing treatment.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: These boots require no assembly. Upon receiving them, simply try them on to ensure a comfortable fit. The removable footbed allows for personalization if needed.

Compatibility: The Uppsala Zip boots are designed for women and are suitable for casual wear during autumn and winter. They pair well with jeans, trousers, skirts, and dresses. While made in Germany, they are designed with a 'Narrow Fit' which tends to fit like a standard width in other brands. Ensure your UK size corresponds to the correct fit.

Care:

  1. Suede Upper: To clean, use a suede brush to remove dirt and debris. For stains, a suede eraser can be effective. Protect the suede with a waterproofing spray specifically designed for leather and suede, applying periodically.
  2. Lambswool Lining: For minor cleaning, use a damp cloth. Avoid soaking the lining. Allow boots to air dry naturally away from direct heat.
  3. Footbed: The cork and latex footbed can be wiped with a damp cloth. Allow it to dry completely before reinserting.
  4. Sole: Clean the rubber sole with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary.
