FAQs

Can I plant these directly into the ground?

Yes, they are hardy, established plants suitable for both containers and garden beds.

What happens after the March blooming period?

These are perennials; while they bloom best from January to March, they will stay green throughout the rest of the year.

Do I need to protect them from frost?

These primroses are hardy and generally tolerate typical winter weather well, though extreme prolonged freezes may benefit from temporary protection.

How often should I feed them?

For best results, use a liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the flowering period.

Will these attract pollinators?

Yes, early primroses provide a valuable source of nectar for early-emerging bees and other pollinators.

Troubleshooting

Flowers are wilting prematurely

Check soil moisture immediately; the plants likely need deep watering to rehydrate the root ball.

Plants are failing to bloom

Ensure the plants are receiving enough light and verify that you are fertilizing every two weeks.

Yellowing leaves

This often indicates overwatering or poor drainage. Check the pot drainage holes and reduce watering frequency.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Preparation: Upon arrival, unpack the plants immediately. If the roots appear dry, give them a light watering before planting.
Planting: Choose a well-draining potting compost for containers. For direct ground planting, mix in organic matter to improve moisture retention.
Spacing: Space plants approximately 15-20cm apart to allow for proper airflow and root establishment.
Watering: Monitor the soil daily during dry spells. The soil should feel damp to the touch but never waterlogged.
Feeding: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the active blooming phase (January to March) to promote continuous flowering.
Maintenance: Deadhead faded blooms to encourage the plant to direct energy toward new flower production.
