Product Information

Full details

The Roughneck External Corner Trowel (ROU51250) is designed for professional plasterers, drywall contractors, and serious DIY enthusiasts who require precision finishing on outside corners. Its primary benefit is the specialized sub-90-degree blade design, which provides the perfect amount of flex to achieve a crisp, consistent 90-degree corner with minimal effort. While the tool is exceptionally durable and corrosion-resistant, users should note that the specialized angle requires a slight learning curve for those accustomed to rigid, standard trowels.

FAQs

Can I use this for internal corners?

No, this tool is specifically designed for external corners. Using it on internal corners will result in a poor finish.

Does the blade rust if left wet?

While it is made of premium stainless steel, it is best practice to dry the tool after washing to maintain its pristine surface condition.

Is this suitable for stucco?

Yes, it is suitable for drywall, stucco, and concrete applications.

How do I ensure a 90-degree finish if the blade is less than 90 degrees?

The blade is designed to flex outward against the corner bead, naturally reaching a true 90-degree profile when applied with steady, even pressure.

Can I replace the handle?

The handle is securely welded to the chrome-plated steel rod; it is designed as a single permanent unit for safety and durability.

Troubleshooting

Plaster is bunching up at the end of the stroke

Reduce your pressure on the handle and ensure your angle of attack is consistent; the blade's flex is doing the work for you.

Blade showing signs of surface discoloration

Use a specialized stainless steel cleaner or a fine scouring pad to gently buff away oxidation caused by harsh chemical additives in some concrete mixes.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent rust resistance due to high-quality stainless steel.
Rounded edges minimize surface gouging.
Soft-grip handle provides superior control and comfort.
Perfect for multi-surface use including drywall, stucco, and concrete.

Cons

Sub-90 degree angle requires practice for beginners.
Not intended for internal corner work.
Requires proper cleaning to maintain the stainless steel finish.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

This tool is ready to use straight out of the box. For best results, ensure your corner bead is properly installed and plumb before application. Compatibility covers standard drywall corner beads, metal reinforcement profiles, and various plastering compounds.

To ensure the longevity of your trowel:

Always clean the blade immediately after use with warm water and a non-abrasive sponge.
Dry the blade thoroughly before storage to prevent water spotting or mineral build-up.
Store in a dry environment and avoid dropping the trowel, as impacts to the corner edges can distort the specialized angle.
