FAQs

Are these shoes machine washable?

It is generally recommended to hand-wash using a damp cloth. Machine washing can damage the adhesive and the ABZORB cushioning technology.

Do all New Balance 740 models have bungee laces?

No. The 740 series includes both traditional lace-up versions and bungee lace versions. Always verify the title or MPN to confirm the closure type.

Is the ABZORB midsole visible?

The ABZORB technology is integrated into the midsole unit to provide impact protection and is designed to be a functional, hidden feature.

What age group are these trainers for?

The 740 series offers variants for both infants and older kids. Check the product specifications for the 'age_group' attribute.

Can I use these for sports activities?

Yes, they are suitable for general athletic play and casual sports, though they are specifically designed as versatile trainers rather than specialized performance gear.

Troubleshooting

Trainer feels too tight after a growth spurt

Check the specific sizing of your model, as the 740 series includes both infant and junior sizing which differ significantly in width and length.

Bungee lace tension is too loose

Check the toggle mechanism for debris. If clear, ensure the laces are pulled evenly before tightening the clip.

Material scuffed from playground use

Use a specialized sneaker cleaner or a suede/leather eraser depending on the specific material of your variant.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent impact protection with ABZORB technology
Stylish retro design suitable for casual wear
Durable build quality for active children
Breathable materials prevent overheating

Cons

Lacing mechanisms differ by model (check if yours is bungee or lace)
Sizing varies across the 740 series range
Brown colourway may require specific care to maintain appearance

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your New Balance 740 trainers last, consider the following maintenance tips:

Lacing: If you have a bungee lace model, ensure the toggle is securely positioned. For traditional lace models, double-knotting is recommended for active play.
Cleaning: Use a soft-bristled brush to remove dry mud or dirt from the outsole. For the upper, a damp cloth with mild soap is generally sufficient.
Drying: Always air dry your trainers at room temperature. Never place them in a tumble dryer or directly on a radiator, as this can degrade the foam cushioning and adhesives.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight to prevent the material colours from fading over time.
