FAQs

How should I clean my Belstaff Racemaster Jacket?

This jacket requires specialist dry cleaning only. Do not attempt to machine wash, hand wash, or tumble dry it, as this can damage the waxed cotton finish.

Is the jacket fully waterproof?

The 6oz waxed cotton provides excellent wind and water-repellent properties, meaning it will protect you from light rain and wind. It is not designed to be fully waterproof for heavy downpours.

Does the jacket fit true to size?

Yes, the Belstaff Racemaster Jacket is designed to fit true to size. We recommend taking your normal size.

What is waxed cotton?

Waxed cotton is a cotton fabric treated with a paraffin-based wax. This treatment makes the material highly resistant to water and wind, while also providing a distinctive, durable finish.

Can I iron this jacket?

No, do not iron the jacket. The heat from an iron can melt or damage the wax finish.

What is the purpose of the reinforced shoulder and elbow panels?

These panels enhance the jacket's durability in areas that experience the most wear and tear, contributing to the garment's longevity.

How often should I re-wax the jacket?

The frequency of re-waxing depends on usage and environmental exposure. If you notice water no longer beads off the fabric or if dry patches appear, it's likely time for a re-wax. Consult a specialist for recommendations.

Troubleshooting

Jacket feels stiff or rigid when new.

This is normal for new waxed cotton. Wear the jacket regularly; it will gradually soften and conform to your body over time.

Water repellency seems to be diminishing.

Waxed cotton requires re-waxing over time. Consult a specialist dry cleaner or Belstaff's care instructions for recommended re-waxing procedures to restore its protective qualities.

Jacket has an odor typical of waxed garments.

This is characteristic of waxed cotton. Ensure the jacket is stored in a well-ventilated area. The scent will typically fade with wear and airing.
