FAQs

Is this paint suitable for kitchens or bathrooms?

While it is durable and wipeable, it is primarily designed for general living areas. For high-humidity environments, a dedicated kitchen and bathroom paint may offer better moisture resistance.

Can I use this on ceilings?

Yes, this product is specifically formulated for both walls and ceilings.

How many coats do I need?

For most surfaces, two coats are recommended to achieve a uniform color and the best finish.

How long does it take to dry?

Johnstone's Matt Emulsion is designed to be quick-drying, but you should check the tin for specific recoat times depending on room temperature and humidity.

Is this paint washable?

It is wipeable, meaning you can gently clean minor marks with a damp cloth, but it should not be scrubbed vigorously.

Troubleshooting

Visible roller marks after drying

Ensure you are using a good quality roller and maintaining a 'wet edge' while painting. Do not overwork the paint once it begins to tack.

Paint peeling or flaking

This is often caused by applying paint to a dirty or greasy surface. Ensure the wall is thoroughly cleaned and primed before re-application.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Easy to apply for smooth, professional results
Effective at minimizing surface imperfections
Modern, sophisticated matte appearance
Wipeable finish for easy maintenance
Suitable for both walls and ceilings

Cons

Matte finishes can be more delicate than gloss alternatives
Requires proper surface preparation for best adhesion
Limited to interior use

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Before application, ensure that surfaces are clean, dry, and free from loose paint, dust, or grease. If the wall is porous, applying a mist coat or primer first will improve adhesion and longevity. Use a high-quality roller for walls and a brush for cutting into edges. Clean tools immediately with warm water after use to prevent paint from drying on bristles. Store the tin in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly secured to maintain paint quality for future touch-ups.
