FAQs
What age is the Murphy's Hurley Gift Set recommended for?
The set is recommended for children aged 2 and up. Specific stick sizes are recommended based on age: 18" for ages 2-4, 20" for ages 4-6, and 22" for ages 6+.
What is the main benefit of the First Touch Sliotar?
The First Touch Sliotar has a larger size and a soft core, making it safer and easier for young children to strike and control while learning the game, without causing injury.
Can I use a regular sliotar with this hurley?
This gift set is designed specifically for use with the included First Touch Sliotar. Using a standard, hard sliotar is not recommended as it may damage the hurley or be unsafe for a beginner.
How should I clean the hurley stick?
Wipe the hurley stick with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct heat, as this can damage the Ash wood.
Are there other color options available?
Yes, the Murphy's Hurley Gift Set is available in both Pink and Blue.
What sizes does the hurley come in?
The hurley stick is available in three sizes: 18 inches, 20 inches, and 22 inches.
Is this set suitable for competitive play?
No, this gift set is designed for learning basic skills, building confidence, and practice. It is not intended for competitive matches or advanced play.
Troubleshooting
Hurley stick feels too light or too heavy for the child.
Refer to the recommended age and size chart. If necessary, consider purchasing a different size hurley from the available options (18", 20", 22").
Sliotar does not seem 'soft' enough.
The First Touch Sliotar is designed for safety but still requires proper striking technique. Ensure the child is not attempting to strike the sliotar with excessive force. Supervise use to ensure correct technique is being applied.
Grip on the hurley is slipping.
Ensure the hands are dry. If the grip material itself is damaged or worn, consider wrapping it with sports tape for a more secure hold.
Hurley stick shows signs of splintering.
Minor surface wear is normal. If significant splintering occurs, discontinue use for safety reasons and consider replacing the hurley. Ensure the stick is not being used for purposes other than playing Hurling or Camogie.
