The Rubus Thornless Blackberry plant from Carbeth Plants is an excellent choice for home gardeners seeking a high-yield, low-maintenance fruit shrub that is safe for families to harvest. This upright, pollinator-friendly variety produces large, sweet, glossy berries every August without the nuisance of prickly stems, making it ideal for beginners and experienced growers alike; however, it does require a sunny location and sufficient space to accommodate its mature growth of up to 2.5 metres.

The plant reaches a mature height of 1.5 to 2.5 metres with a spread of 1 to 1.5 metres.
The berries are ready to harvest in August when they are deep glossy black and pull easily from the stem.
While it is self-fertile, having pollinators like bees in your garden will help increase your overall fruit yield.
Yes, but ensure you use a large, heavy-duty container and high-quality potting compost, keeping in mind the plant's mature size.
Yes, this variety is specifically bred to be thorn-free, making it very easy to manage.
Water regularly during dry spells, especially while the fruit is developing, to ensure the berries remain plump and juicy.
Ensure the plant is receiving at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight and that pollinators have access to the flowers.
Check soil drainage; blackberries dislike waterlogged roots. Ensure you are not overwatering and that the soil is slightly acidic.
Provide adequate vertical support and ensure the plant is not overcrowded by other shrubs.
Upon receiving your 12cm pot, ensure the plant is watered thoroughly. Choose a location that receives full sun to encourage sugar development in the fruit. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, incorporate some organic matter into the soil, and position the plant at the same depth it was in the pot. Provide a stake or trellis system to support the 1.5 to 2.5-metre mature height. During the growing season, keep the soil moist but well-drained, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to boost fruit production. Prune back old, fruited stems after the harvest to encourage new growth for the following year.
