Full details

The Camellia Golden Anniversary is an elegant, evergreen shrub perfect for gardeners seeking a reliable, low-maintenance ornamental gift that provides year-round foliage and striking off-white, gold-tinged blooms. While it is highly prized for its symmetrical flowers that appear from February to April, potential owners should note that the plant may not be in bloom at the time of purchase and requires specific acidic soil conditions to thrive.

FAQs

Will my plant arrive in flower?

Not necessarily. While we ship healthy, strong plants, they may be out of flower depending on the time of purchase.

Can I plant this in standard garden soil?

Only if your garden soil is naturally acidic. If you have neutral or alkaline soil, it is best to plant it in a container using ericaceous potting mix.

Does it need full sun?

It performs best in partial shade or sun, provided the soil remains moist.

How often should I water it?

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Check the top inch of soil; if it feels dry, it is time to water.

Is this plant frost hardy?

Camellias are generally hardy, but container-grown plants may benefit from protection during severe, prolonged freezing temperatures.

Troubleshooting

Leaves turning yellow (chlorosis)

This is typically a sign of high soil pH. Ensure you are using ericaceous compost and avoid watering with hard tap water if possible.

Bud drop before flowering

Often caused by irregular watering or extreme temperature fluctuations. Keep the soil moisture consistent throughout the summer and autumn.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your Camellia thrives, it is essential to use ericaceous (acidic) soil, as this plant will not tolerate alkaline conditions. If planting in a container, ensure it has adequate drainage holes to prevent root rot. Feed the plant with a specialized ericaceous fertilizer during the growing season to support bud development. Water consistently, especially during dry summer months, to ensure the plant sets healthy buds for the following year. Pruning should be kept to a minimum, ideally performed immediately after flowering if needed to shape the shrub.
