Setup, Compatibility & Care
Upon delivery, carefully remove the 'Silver Dream' gift wrapping to allow the plant to breathe. If you are not planting it immediately, ensure the root ball remains moist. For long-term care, plant the Camellia in a site sheltered from cold, drying winds. Camellias thrive in ericaceous (acidic) soil; if your garden soil is alkaline, use a large container filled with ericaceous compost. Water regularly during the first year, particularly in summer, to establish a healthy root system. Use a mulch of leaf mold or bark chips around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
