FAQs
What does MIPS Essential Core mean for safety?
MIPS Essential Core is a system designed to provide an additional layer of safety by reducing rotational forces transmitted to the brain from angled impacts. This is crucial for protecting against certain types of head injuries.
How do I know if the helmet fits correctly?
A proper fit means the helmet sits level on your head, covering the forehead without tilting back. The Headset SX system should be snug with the dial, and the straps should form a 'Y' below your ears, with the chin strap comfortably tight (one to two fingers fit).
Can I use this helmet for activities other than cycling?
This helmet is specifically designed and tested for cycling. While it offers excellent protection for cycling, it may not be certified or suitable for other sports like skiing or skateboarding.
What is the Virginia Tech® Helmet Rating?
The Virginia Tech® Helmet Ratings program independently tests helmets for safety. A 5-star rating is the highest possible, indicating superior performance in laboratory-based impact tests.
How should I clean my helmet?
Use a soft cloth with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the helmet is completely dry before storing.
What is the weight of the helmet?
The Specialized Chamonix 3 MIPs Helmet weighs approximately 330g for a size Medium.
Is the visor integrated or removable?
The visor is easily removable, allowing you to customize the helmet's appearance and function based on your riding conditions and preferences.
Troubleshooting
Helmet feels too loose or shifts during rides.
Adjust the Headset SX fit system dial for a tighter fit. Ensure the Tri-Fix web splitter is correctly positioned and the chin strap is snug.
Straps are uncomfortable or chafe.
Readjust the Tri-Fix web splitter position and the chin strap length. Ensure the straps lie flat against the skin and do not twist.
Visor is difficult to attach or remove.
Ensure the visor is aligned correctly with the helmet's front mounting points. Apply firm, even pressure for attachment. For removal, gently pull the visor away from the helmet, potentially wiggling slightly.
Helmet feels too warm even with ventilation.
Ensure the internal channeling is not obstructed. While ventilation is optimized, performance can vary based on ambient temperature and rider exertion. Consider lighter headwear for extreme heat.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Adjust the Headset SX fit system dial at the rear of the helmet until it feels secure and comfortable.
- Use the Tri-Fix web splitter to position the straps evenly around your ears and under your chin. The Y-shaped splitters should sit just below your earlobes.
- Fasten the chin strap, ensuring it is snug but not constricting. You should be able to fit one to two fingers between the strap and your chin.
- If desired, attach the removable visor by aligning it with the designated slots on the helmet's front and pressing firmly until it clicks into place.
Compatibility:
- This helmet is designed for adult cyclists and is gender-neutral (Unisex).
- It is suitable for various cycling disciplines including road cycling, gravel riding, and everyday commuting.
Care:
- Clean the helmet using a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they can damage the helmet's materials.
- Ensure the helmet is completely dry before storing it.
- Store the helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing it near heat sources like radiators or in a hot car.
- Inspect the helmet regularly for any signs of damage, such as cracks, dents, or worn straps. If significant damage is found, the helmet should be replaced.
