Product Information

Full details

The Antec Nova 120 is an industrial-grade 120mm PWM case fan designed for users seeking extreme cooling performance and exceptional durability. Its key benefit is its powerful airflow (up to 95.32 CFM) and static pressure (up to 6.56 mmH2O) when needed, combined with a quiet Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) and a dustproof design for longevity. A potential caveat is its maximum noise level of 38.7 dB(A) in its highest setting, which may be noticeable in very quiet environments.

FAQs

What is the lifespan of the Antec Nova 120 fan?

The fan is rated for a lifespan of 50,000 hours at 40°C, thanks to its Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) and industrial-grade construction.

Can I control the fan speed manually?

Yes, the fan features a three-phase PWM speed controller allowing you to select between Low, Medium, and High performance modes. You can further fine-tune speeds via your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI or fan control software.

What is the maximum airflow and static pressure?

In its High performance setting, the fan can achieve a maximum airflow of 95.32 CFM and a maximum static pressure of 6.56 mmH2O.

Does this fan support PWM Sharing Technology?

Yes, the Antec Nova 120 supports PWM Sharing Technology, enabling you to daisy-chain multiple fans and control them together via a single 4-pin PWM header.

How does the dustproof design work?

The dustproof design encloses the internal drive components, preventing dust or debris from entering and corroding the internal electronics, thus extending the fan's operational lifespan.

What is the noise level at its highest setting?

At its highest speed setting (3200 RPM), the fan produces a noise level of 38.7 dB(A).

What material are the fan blades and frame made of?

The entire fan, including blades and frame, is constructed from industrial-grade Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) for high durability and heat resistance.

Troubleshooting

Fan does not spin upon startup

Ensure the 4-pin PWM connector is securely seated in the motherboard fan header. Check that the fan header is receiving power and that the fan speed is not set to 0 RPM in the BIOS/UEFI or control software. Verify the fan's operational voltage (6.0-13.2V) is within the expected range.

Fan is making unusual noise (clicking, grinding)

Check for any obstructions (cables, screws) hitting the fan blades. Ensure the fan is securely mounted and not vibrating against the case. If the noise persists, there might be an issue with the bearing; contact customer support if under warranty.

Fan speed is not changing based on temperature

Confirm the fan is connected to a PWM-capable header on the motherboard. Check your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure PWM control is enabled for the connected header and that a fan curve or mode is configured correctly. If using PWM Sharing Technology, ensure all connected fans are compatible and the header can support the combined power draw.

Reduced airflow or performance

Check for dust buildup on the fan blades and the surrounding area (e.g., radiator fins or case filters). Ensure there are no blockages in the air path. Verify the fan is operating at an appropriate speed setting (Low, Medium, or High).

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional cooling performance with high airflow and static pressure.
  • Durable construction for long-term reliability.
  • Quiet operation thanks to FDB bearing, especially at lower speeds.
  • Versatile performance modes via PWM speed control.
  • Dustproof design enhances longevity in harsh environments.

Cons

  • Maximum noise level (38.7 dB(A)) can be noticeable at high speeds.
  • Industrial focus might be overkill for basic computing needs.
  • Higher price point compared to standard consumer fans.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Mounting: Secure the 120mm fan to your computer case, radiator, or desired location using standard fan screws. Ensure the airflow direction arrow on the fan frame points towards the intended exhaust or intake path.
  2. Power Connection: Connect the 4-pin PWM connector to an available fan header on your motherboard. The Nova 120 supports PWM Sharing Technology, allowing multiple fans to be daisy-chained and connected to a single header if your motherboard has sufficient fan control capabilities.
  3. Speed Control: Utilize your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI or fan control software to manage fan speeds. The fan's internal PWM controller allows for three distinct performance modes, which can be further fine-tuned.

Compatibility:

  • Form Factor: Compatible with any standard 120mm fan mounts found in most PC cases and CPU coolers/radiators.
  • Power: Requires a standard 4-pin PWM fan header on a motherboard or fan controller. Operates on DC 12V, with an operational voltage range of DC 6.0-13.2V.
  • Operating Systems: Not directly tied to an operating system; fan speed is controlled via hardware connections.

Care:

  • Cleaning: Periodically dust the fan blades and frame using compressed air or a soft brush. Avoid using liquids directly on the fan components.
  • Inspection: Check for any signs of damage or excessive dust buildup on the bearings or blades. The dustproof design helps mitigate internal buildup, but external cleaning is still recommended.
  • Lubrication: The Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) is sealed and does not require user lubrication.
