FAQs
Are these shoes suitable for winter hiking?
They are well-suited for transitional seasons, but they are not insulated for sub-zero winter temperatures.
How do I ensure I choose the right size?
The SpeedArc Matis follows standard UK adult sizing. It is recommended to try them on with the type of socks you intend to use for hiking.
Can I replace the insoles?
Yes, the insoles are removable and can be replaced with custom orthotics or fresh insoles if desired.
Is the leather waterproof?
The shoe utilizes an integrated waterproof bootie inside the leather construction to provide a comprehensive water-resistant barrier.
How often should I treat the leather?
Depending on usage, treating the leather with a conditioner every 3-6 months helps maintain its appearance and structural integrity.
Troubleshooting
Leather feels stiff during first wear
Apply a leather conditioner to soften the fibers and wear the shoes for short intervals over several days.
Excessive moisture inside the shoe
Ensure the waterproof bootie is not blocked by debris and allow the shoe to air dry completely with the insole removed.
Reduced traction on slick surfaces
Clean the outsole treads to remove packed mud or debris that may reduce surface contact.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the longevity of your Merrell SpeedArc Matis, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Initial Break-in: Wear the shoes for short periods indoors or on light walks to allow the leather to conform to your foot shape.
- Cleaning: Wipe the leather surface with a damp cloth after use. Avoid using harsh soaps or chemicals that can strip the protective finish.
- Drying: If the interior becomes wet, remove the insoles and let the shoes air dry naturally away from direct heat sources like radiators, which can crack the leather.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: While the bootie is waterproof, applying a leather-specific conditioning wax periodically will maintain the outer material's water resistance and prevent it from drying out.
