Forgefix TechFast Timber to Steel Countersunk/Torx Roof Screw - Silver - 5.5 x 50mm
Self drilling screw with countersunk/torx head. Used for joining timber to heavy gauge steel frame...Self drilling screw with countersunk/torx head. Used for joining timber to heavy gauge steel frame buildings. Salt spray tested to 1000 hours. TechFast Heavy Duty Timber To Steel Countersunk/Torx Roof Screw 5.5 x 50mm (100 Pack) in Silver.
Forgefix TechFast Timber to Steel CSK/Wing Screws are used to join timber to steel frame buildings. The screws are fitted with breakaway wings that create a clearance hole to protect the thread from engaging timber when drilling through. Breakaway wings will ream a hole, then break off when they contact the metal surface to be drilled. The thread will then engage with metal. They have a TORX(r) compatible insert for a higher transmission of power. With improved countersinking from recessed ribs. Fire and corrosion resistant. Complies with EU Safety, Health and Environmental requirements.
These Forgefix TechFast Timber to Steel CSK/Wing Screws have the following specification: Size: 5.5 x 50mm, Clamping Thickness: 21mm, Effective Thread Length: 22mm, Pack Size: 100, Drill Tip: No.5 No.5 drill tip for self-drilling heavy gauge steel up to 12.5mm.

FAQs
What is the primary application for these screws?
These screws are primarily used to join timber to steel frame buildings.
What type of driver is required?
A TORX(r) compatible driver bit is required.
What is the advantage of the breakaway wings?
The breakaway wings create a clearance hole in the timber to protect the screw thread from damage and ensure proper engagement with the steel.
Are these screws corrosion-resistant?
Yes, they are salt spray tested to 1000 hours for enhanced corrosion resistance.
What is the clamping thickness for the 5.5 x 50mm screw?
The clamping thickness is 21mm.
What is the effective thread length of the 5.5 x 50mm screw?
The effective thread length is 22mm.
What is the drill tip type?
No.5 drill tip for self-drilling heavy gauge steel up to 12.5mm.
Are these screws suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, the corrosion resistance makes them suitable for many outdoor applications.
Troubleshooting
Screw is difficult to drive in.
Ensure you are using the correct TORX(r) driver bit. Apply steady pressure while driving the screw. If the steel is particularly thick, consider pre-drilling a pilot hole.
Screw head is not flush.
Ensure the countersunk head is properly seated. If necessary, adjust the driving depth to achieve a flush finish.
Screw is not holding securely.
Verify that the correct screw size and length are used for the application. Make sure the screw has fully engaged with the steel frame.
Pros and Cons

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Selection: Choose the correct screw size based on the thickness of the timber and steel being joined. Ensure the clamping thickness is appropriate.
Tools: Use a TORX(r) compatible driver bit for installation.
Installation:
Align the timber with the steel frame.
Place the screw through the timber.
Apply firm and consistent pressure while driving the screw into the steel.
Compatibility: These screws are designed for joining timber to heavy gauge steel. Ensure the steel frame is compatible with the screw's specifications.
Care: No special maintenance is required. However, periodically inspect the connections for any signs of loosening or corrosion, especially in exposed outdoor applications.
