Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Sizing: It is strongly recommended to drop half a size from your usual shoe size. Try them on with the type of socks you typically wear. The boots should feel snug but not uncomfortably tight, as the leather will stretch slightly and mold to your foot over time.
- Lacing: The boots feature seven eyelets. Experiment with different lacing techniques for optimal comfort and fit. The included secondary leather laces can be used to customize the aesthetic.
- Break-in Period: Expect a break-in period. During this time, the premium Rough & Tough leather will soften and conform to the unique shape of your foot, enhancing comfort. Wear them for shorter periods initially, gradually increasing wear time.
Compatibility
- Style: The Classic Moc's timeless design makes it highly compatible with a wide range of styles, from rugged workwear and outdoorsy aesthetics to casual urban and heritage-inspired fashion.
- Environments: Suitable for varied environments including casual city wear, light-duty work, outdoor recreational activities, and travel.
- Footwear Accessories: Compatible with various sock types and orthotic inserts (especially with the removable footbed).
Care
Proper care is essential to maintain the appearance and longevity of your Red Wing Classic Moc boots, particularly the Rough & Tough leather.
- Cleaning: Regularly brush off dirt and debris with a soft brush. For heavier dirt, wipe down with a damp cloth.
- Conditioning: Use a conditioner specifically formulated for oiled and waxed nubuck leathers (like Red Wing's Leather Protector or an equivalent). This helps replenish natural oils, prevent drying, and maintain the leather's supple quality. Apply sparingly and evenly, then buff gently.
- Water Protection: While the boots offer water resistance, applying a water repellent spray designed for leather can provide an extra layer of protection, especially before exposure to heavy moisture.
- Drying: If the boots get wet, allow them to air dry naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat sources (like radiators or direct sunlight), which can damage the leather.
- Storage: When not in use, store your boots in a cool, dry place. Using shoe trees can help maintain their shape and absorb moisture.
- Resoling: Given the Goodyear welt construction, the boots are resoleable. When the Traction Tred outsole wears down, consult a professional cobbler or Red Wing Shoes for resoling options to extend the life of your boots.
