Setup, Compatibility & Care
Getting started with your Gelert Horizon Waterproof Walking Shoes is straightforward, and proper care will ensure their longevity and performance.
Setup
- Lacing: Utilize the classic lacing system to secure your shoes. Start by loosening the laces, insert your foot, and then tighten them from the toes upwards, ensuring a snug but comfortable fit. Double-knotting is recommended for security during activity.
- Break-In Period: Like most new footwear, these shoes may benefit from a short break-in period. Wear them for shorter durations initially before embarking on longer walks to allow them to conform to your feet.
Compatibility
These walking shoes are designed for:
- Varied Surfaces: Excellent for light trails, gravel paths, urban sidewalks, and grassy areas.
- Damp Conditions: The waterproof membrane is ideal for wet grass, puddles, light rain, and generally damp environments.
- Activities: Suitable for daily walks, outdoor errands, casual hikes, and general outdoor recreation. They are not intended for extreme mountaineering or heavy-duty industrial use.
Care Instructions
- Cleaning the Upper: The synthetic upper should be cleaned using a soft damp cloth. Gently wipe away dirt and mud. Avoid harsh brushes or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the material or the waterproof membrane.
- Drying: If the shoes get wet (inside or out), allow them to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources like radiators or direct sunlight, as this can degrade materials and adhesives.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: While the shoes feature a waterproof membrane, over time and with heavy use, the outer synthetic material's water repellency might lessen. Consider using a footwear-specific water repellent spray to maintain the outer layer's ability to shed water, though the internal membrane will continue to provide waterproofing.
