Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup Instructions
Before you begin, gather all necessary items: the hair dye kit, old towels, a timer, gloves (provided), and a non-metallic bowl if you prefer brush application.
- Perform a Patch Test (Mandatory): 48 hours before full application, apply a small amount of the unmixed dye cream and developer to a discreet area of skin (e.g., behind the ear or inner elbow). Leave it for 48 hours. If any irritation, redness, or swelling occurs, do not use the product.
- Conduct a Strand Test (Recommended): Apply the mixed dye to a small, hidden strand of hair to determine the optimal processing time and preview the final color result.
- Prepare Your Hair: Ensure your hair is dry and unwashed for at least 24-48 hours before coloring. This allows natural oils to protect your scalp.
- Mix the Product: Put on the provided gloves. Pour the entire contents of the developer bottle into the applicator bottle or a non-metallic bowl. Add the entire contents of the hair dye cream tube. Close the applicator bottle tightly and shake vigorously until the mixture is uniform. If using a bowl, mix thoroughly with a non-metallic spoon or applicator brush.
- Protect Your Surroundings: Drape an old towel over your shoulders and wear old clothing. Apply a thin layer of barrier cream around your hairline to prevent skin staining.
Compatibility
- Hair Types: Garnier Nutrisse Permanent Hair Dye is suitable for all hair types. Results may vary slightly depending on your natural hair color, texture, and porosity.
- Previous Treatments: If your hair has been recently permed, relaxed, or straightened, it is recommended to wait at least two weeks before coloring.
- Chemical Reactions: As with all hair color products, avoid contact with metallic objects during mixing and application (e.g., metal clips, metallic bowls).
Hair Care After Coloring
To maintain the vibrancy and health of your freshly colored hair:
- Use Colour-Safe Products: Switch to shampoos and conditioners specifically designed for color-treated hair. These formulas are gentler and help lock in color.
- Cool Water Rinses: Rinse your hair with lukewarm or cool water, as hot water can open the hair cuticle and cause color to fade faster.
- Limit Washing: Wash your hair less frequently. Consider using dry shampoo between washes to extend your color's life.
- Avoid Excessive Heat Styling: High heat from styling tools can strip color and damage hair. Use heat protectant sprays and opt for lower heat settings.
- Deep Conditioning: Incorporate a weekly deep conditioning treatment or hair mask to keep your hair nourished and healthy, especially after chemical processing.
